Barcelona Awwwards Conference : what i’ve learned

awwwards-conference

I am at the party organized by Awwwards, the final event of the two days conference took place in Barcelona.

A conference where there were several high quality talks with a strong inspirational note . But I’m not going to talk about the content, but about people.

Almost everyone at the party asked me the same question: what do you think of the conference, did you like my speech?

People always looking for confirmations and never feeling arrived.

Now I’ll try to summarize here the three things that made me think, and that will be my engine in next hours, days, years.

Stupid Side projects

Tobias van Schneider enlightened me with his speech: he spoke of his side projects, some without any real usefulness, but they gave him enormous popularity, others that are designed to help you create a portfolio with WordPress in an intuitive and creative way, with Semplice.

Basically I also made my first side project (Minimable), but now I understand that I have to make many more. So stay tuned :)

Small customers can make you do the leap

I learned a lesson from the Aquest agency: when we have customers with low budgets we often offer them a basic website.

But perhaps, because the customers are small and they themselves have few pretensions, is where we can unleash more of our creativity, even going over budget, but getting a job candidate to win an award.

We can do a little extra effort at the beginning, invest more time then necessary, to obtain maybe some rewards and bigger clients.

I have to grow

From the conference I learned one thing: my knowledge is not enough. I have to improve myself, to learn new technologies. And I started immediately with angular.js. And you can be sure that is just the beginning.

Conclusions

Attend an event with this importance has been a privilege. Having known idols as Vitaly Friedman (co-founder of Smashing Magazine), Tobias van Schneider, Aquest, Henry Daubrez (co-founder of Dog Studio), the guys of Epic Agency was a dream come true.

And now is the time to realize my dream :)
